The Power Tap SL 2.4 is like a coach in a hub. It is the best product next to a bicycle that can really help you get faster and keep you on the right track to a healthy training program.
How can this be true? Well, the Power Tap gives you accurate and quantitative information that can easily be down loaded to better track your work outs.
It works by measuring watts. Watts are the amount of energy the rider puts into to bicycle to provide forward momentum. Watts are not effected by wind, tire rolling resistance, slope of the road and rider weight. However, your speed is. If you are training by keeping track of heart rate and or average speed, you are on the right track, but they are not nearly as accurate as measuring your watts. There are too many variables with training only by heart rate. Stress, low energy, poor diet, being sick, getting sick, not recovered from a previous workout, ect.
Example; Most riders I see train by average speed. Let’s say you have a ride you like to do and one week you average 22 mph. Two weeks later you do the same ride and your average was only 20.5 mph. The big question is, what does this mean? How can you quantitate this information? All you know for sure is your speed was slower and it took you longer. Did you work as hard as two weeks ago? Did you slow down in the two weeks? Was there a stronger wind this time? Were your tires low? If you ride by watts then you have these answers.
Example 2; The first time you did the loop you averaged 225 watts and an average speed of 22 mph. Two weeks later you averaged 240 watts and had an average speed of 20.5 mph. Now you really know something valuable. You had a slower average speed but you pushed more watts. In fact, you were stronger on the second ride than the first. If you didn’t have a Power Tap, how could you have known this?
The Power tap also gives you all the functions of a good cycling computer and heart rate monitor. So if you really want to get the most out of your training, or just want to get real information you can track and follow for years, you have got to look into the Power Tap SL 2.4.
