Eugene Or is breaking all the rules. Cyclocross season is usually a fall/winter sport starting in September. I hear so many people say they are only riding their road or mountain bikes to get ready for cross. Why wait for fall when you can race in the summer?!?!

11 o’clock at Alton Baker Park on Saturday the 13 of June. Air up the tubulars, drink some ale and prepare for Bike Day. This race and all the events are FREE!!! Bike Day is from 10am to 4pm @ Alton Baker Park. There will be a Track Stand-Off at 2pm. Both events will have a $50 cash prize to the winners donated from Selco and will also receive hand made trophy’s!

The race is being put on by your local frame builders at Proletariat Bikes. Come down, bring the family and have a blast!

The world has gone and is going through some serious changes. As of March 2009, 9% of the U.S. Labor Force is unemployed. That is the highest in the last 20 years. We’ve seen the cost of gas peak at $4 a gallon and a barrel of oil at over $100. Nationwide, 649,917 homes received at least one foreclosure-related filing in the first three months of the year, up 112% from 306,722 during the same period last year. And don’t forget the great stock market crash of 2008.

The US and its people are being tested. How strong our country is relays solely on how strong our community is. Waste not want not.

Its nice to see so many people, young and old, choosing to ride a bike and park the car. Spending money on things more important than gas, insurance and a car payment. A car for most people is not a necessity. You would be surprised how easy it is to get around when you don’t have that option.

A great man once said, “Health is wealth.” Ride a bike! Get out with your kids! Feel the air tickle your face!

Do you ever have those moments in life when it seems you cant lose? You show up to your Track & Field race and someone stole everyone Else’s shoes? You line up for the Indy 500 and your the only one that brought a steering wheel? Or how about forgetting your wife’s Birthday only to find that she fell and has Amnesia and has no memory of who you are? I guess that third one is a bit unbelievable, I mean, what are the odds right?

Collins Cycle has recently had one of those moments. We are proud to announce our latest hire Andy Jones! My mom told me growing up, “dont put that in your mouth, use a tissue!” Wait, thats not it. Maybe it was “big things come in small packages.” Thats the one. And Andy is BIG things! He may physically cast a small shadow, but his knowledge and experience shop at the Big-n-Tall store.

Andy has worked in the bicycle industry for 7 years at various shops, but we struck gold when Specialized passed him on to us. What a fit for our shop. He knows more about suspension and disc brakes then one of the true greats in the field, me! Andy is the latest addition to out team and I know he can do some good for you and your bike. Here is where the motivation comes in… We are so confident you will be faster that every week , if  you cut 15 seconds off your time at the Coburg Time Trial, we will give you $5.00 cash.

Here is the fine print: You must get 3D fit at Collins Cycle Shop to qualify. Offer is good only to Coburg time trial participants. Your time  must improve by a minimum of 15 seconds increments. Time won’t carry over. You must be in to collect your cash before the next weeks time trial.

Post Fit

I hope everyone has a sun burnafter the weather we’ve been having the last few days. Spring is here and summer is just around the bend. Im ready for it. We had 25 riders on the Monday Night Ride!!! That’s the largest group we have had in April. Its the best and only NO DROP RIDE in Eugene. Make sure you get out and join us on at least one of our evening Road and MTB weekly rides. There’s something for everyone.
